If your QuickBooks Online company is Canadian, Intuit's own connectors for Claude and ChatGPT will not open for it. As of September 2026, Intuit's help article for the ChatGPT app says it is "currently available to QuickBooks Online customers in the US", and a reply on Intuit's developer forum, written as QuickBooks Support, says the Claude connector "currently supports US QuickBooks Online companies only. Non-US realms are blocked by design." What works for a Canadian company is a connector that talks to the QuickBooks Online API itself, rather than Intuit's assistant apps. Caribooks is one, made in Montréal: sign in with an emailed link, authorize QuickBooks once, then click Add to Claude, or paste one address into ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot Studio. It takes a few minutes, holds several companies under one account, starts every company read-only, and answers in French or English.

Does Intuit's QuickBooks connector work in Canada?
No, not as of September 2026, and Intuit gives no date.
Claude. Intuit's help article, Use Claude to enter transactions and get insights in QuickBooks, updated 5 August 2026, does not name a country. The answer came on Intuit's own developer forum. On 7 September 2026, a Scottish company asked why the Claude connector failed right after the Intuit login with "the app you've selected isn't available for use in your country." The reply, which opens "Thank you for contacting QuickBooks Support", says the connector is built and operated by Intuit, "currently supports US QuickBooks Online companies only," that non-US realms "are blocked by design," and that "Other regions are planned, with no published timeline." Our own test with a Canadian company on 21 August 2026 could not connect either.
ChatGPT. Intuit's article Connect QuickBooks Online to ChatGPT, updated 26 August 2026, says it plainly: "This feature is currently available to QuickBooks Online customers in the US."
Microsoft Copilot. Intuit's help centre documents connectors for Claude and ChatGPT. We found none from Intuit for Copilot.
Even in the US, the Claude connector has a fixed scope. Intuit lists profit and loss, cash flow, industry benchmarking, transaction import, the business profile, and the sales side (invoices, estimates, payment links, customers, products and services), and states that "the current QuickBooks connector use cases are limited to the ones above." Where that list covers what you need and your company is American, it is free with your subscription and it is the right answer.
What works for a Canadian QuickBooks Online company
Intuit's block applies to its own connector app. The forum reply also explains the mechanism: country availability is a setting each app has on the Intuit Developer dashboard. So the question for any third-party option is which countries its app accepts. Here is what each one says about itself, read on 25 September 2026.

"Not stated" means exactly that. None of these publishes a list of countries, so try one with a real Canadian company before you commit.
How to connect QuickBooks Online to Claude from Canada
Claude works on every plan, Free included, on the web, the desktop app and the phone.

QuickBooks and ChatGPT in Canada
ChatGPT needs a paid plan (Plus, Pro or Business) and developer mode, and the connector works on the web only. In Settings, then Security and login, turn on Developer mode. Go to chatgpt.com/plugins, click "+", name the connector Caribooks and paste the address shown in your portal. In each conversation, pick Caribooks from the More menu before you ask. Microsoft Copilot
Copilot connects through an agent in Copilot Studio, which needs a Microsoft 365 work account allowed to build agents. You add Caribooks as a Model Context Protocol tool at the address that ends in /api/mcp/compact, which groups the same operations into 23 tools because Copilot Studio caps the number of tools per agent. Choose OAuth 2.0 with Dynamic discovery, then publish the agent to Teams and Microsoft 365 Copilot. An administrator may have to approve it. What the assistant can reach once connected
The whole ledger, which is the gap Intuit's connector leaves even in the US: the balance sheet, trial balance, general ledger, aged receivables and payables, budget against actuals, journal entries, vendors and bills, alongside the profit and loss and cash flow. There are 35 reports and search tools over every record type, plus a change feed for "what moved since Monday". A few questions that work on a read-only connection:
"Balance sheet as of 31 August 2026, compared with 31 July."
"Which bills are due in the next 14 days, and from which account do we usually pay them?"
"What changed in the books since Monday?"
The assistant pulls, compares and flags. Deciding what to accrue, what is material and what to sign stays with you and your accountant.
Several companies, one account
Bookkeepers and owners with a holding company rarely have one file. Every company you connect sits under the same Caribooks account, and each tool takes a company parameter, so one conversation can move between them:
"Aged receivables for Studio Nord and for Atelier Nord Inc. Which customers owe money to both?"
The Connector is $39 a month for one company, $99 for up to five, $199 for ten and $399 for twenty-five, with a 14-day trial and no credit card. Autopilot, which includes the connector for the companies it covers, is $149 a month for one company, $299 for five, $499 for ten and $999 for twenty-five. Working across several QuickBooks companies shows what that looks like in practice.
Read-only until you say otherwise
Every connection starts read-only, so the assistant can pull reports and search records but cannot change anything. Writing is switched on per company, by the account owner, in the portal. Even then, deleting, voiding and sending a document each need an explicit yes in the conversation. A bookkeeper can keep nine client files read-only while working in the tenth. Read-only versus write access goes through the trade-offs.
In French, with Canadian tax
The product and the assistant's answers work in French. Ask in French and the answer comes back in French:

The tax summary report is one of the 35 reports, so GST/HST and QST figures come out the same way as a profit and loss. The GST/HST return guide shows the checks worth running before you file. Receipts from email and your phone
Forward a receipt email to your Caribooks address, or drop a photo on your company's drop link, and the original file ends up attached to its expense in QuickBooks Online. Your assistant does it when you ask, or Autopilot does it on a schedule and waits for your approval. Where this is the wrong tool
Your company is American and you only need a profit and loss and invoices. Use Intuit's connector. It is free with QuickBooks and one click.
You are comfortable in a terminal and have one company. Intuit's open-source server costs nothing. You maintain it, and it will not follow you to Claude on your phone.
You want the full ledger for free and work alone. Try Meridian's connector with a Canadian company first. If it accepts it, it may be all you need.
You are on QuickBooks Desktop. Desktop has no API, so no connector reaches it, ours included.
